Father’s Day gift ideas from the dads at WorldShare

With Father’s Day fast approaching, and dads being notoriously difficult to buy for, we asked the fathers at WorldShare to share their favourite gifts from our Harvest of Hope Catalogue.

“I’ve always had a heart for providing a safe delivery gift. When my daughter was born, there were complications during her delivery. I think back to that time and the fear and emotions I was going through and then I think of these young women in Uganda – who are facing all of this without the support of their family or a partner – and I can’t imagine what they’re going through.

And then I think of holding my daughter, a bit later after the delivery, and I remember the overwhelming love and joy I felt at that moment. And I find it hard to think of any gift that could be better than contributing, in some small way, to another person having a chance to feel that love and joy.”

As a father, a grandfather, and a former teacher, Bruce’s mind went straight to education – the gift of school supplies.

“I spent years in the classroom, and I know that a pen and a book aren’t just objects. They are keys that unlock a world of possibilities for a child. Providing school supplies removes a huge barrier for families and tells a child, ‘We believe in you. Your future is important.’ As a dad, that’s a message I’d be incredibly proud to send.”

What does a father who leads an entire organisation wish for this Father’s Day? We asked our CEO, Glyn.

His choice is all about creating possibilities and independence – a gift that empowers a family to feed themselves.

“As a dad, I’ve learned that the greatest gift you can give is not just support for a day, but the skills and tools to build a better future. That’s what this gift represents. It’s not just a meal, it’s the dignity and empowerment of a family being able to provide for themselves, harvest after harvest.”

When we asked Brett (our Chief Development Officer) what gift resonates most deeply, his answer was immediate and clear.

“For me, it has to be Clean Water. Water is the essence of life; it’s fundamental to our survival and well-being. When we provide clean water to those in need, we’re not just quenching thirst but empowering communities to thrive. This would be one of the gifts I’d be proud to receive.”

We’d also like to express our deep-felt appreciation for all the dads that make up part of our community – from our team, our partners and our supporters – thank you all!
